Hoosier.Social Quickstart Guide

In a browser: Head over to Hoosier.Social, select Create account and answer the questions there.

On a mobile device: Download the official Mastodon app (available on Google Play, the Apple Store, or F-Droid). When you open the app for the first time, be sure to select "Pick another server" and search for Hoosier.Social to select us as your home.

In a browser: Click on your profile name or your empty profile image. Then select Edit Profile to fill in the details.

On a mobile device: Tap Profile in the lower right corner of the screen. Then tap Edit Profile.

By default, your public posts aren't searchable by other users. To enable this:

In a browser: While editing your profile, select Privacy and reach. In the Reach section, make sure both items are on.

On a mobile device: Tap Home in the lower left corner of the app. Tap your account name. Tap Privacy and reach and make sure both options are on.

Create a post that includes the #Introduction hashtag to introduce yourself to our community. Here's an example.

You can use the search to find individual accounts to follow. For starters, you should follow our admin team: @Brian, @thekitmalone, @HoosierSocial.

We maintain a Starter Pack of popular regional accounts and community members. You can automatically follow all of them here.

You can follow hashtags to automatically see posts from anyone about your interests. You can search for hashtags of interest using the search bar, or click/tap a hashtag that you see in your feed to begin following.

We recommend following #HoosierSocial and #HoosierMast to follow news of interest to our specific community.

Start posting right away! Posting stuff, liking stuff, boosting stuff, and replying to stuff are the best ways to make friends around here. Participating helps to build our community, so don't hold back!

In a browser: Your feeds are in the rightmost column when you are viewing your timeline.

On a mobile device: Tap Home in the upper left to see the list of feeds.

• The Home feed shows posts from all users and hashtags you follow
• The Live feed shows posts being shared by all users on Hoosier.Social
• On mobile, you can select Explore to see a selection of posts from other servers we are federated with. In a browser, you can find this option under the Live feed section.
